Availability The mscdex or mscdexnt commands are that are available in the below versions of Microsoft operating systems as mscdex.exe or mscdexnt.exe. • • • • • • • Mscdex syntax Syntax: MSCDEX.EXE /D:x /M:n /E /V /L:x /S /K /D:Device name Allows you to specify the name for the driver. This device name must be identical to the device name in the file. Usually, MSCD0001 is commonly used. /M: Specifies the number of sector buffers to cache the path table of a CD-ROM disk. Typically, each drive should have four to five buffers. The larger this number is, the less your computer will read directly from the CD-ROM drive. /E Tells MSCDEX.exe to use expanded memory. /V Displays information on memory usage when you boot your PC. ![]() /L: Specifies the you want to assign the first CD-ROM drive. Such as D: /S Allows the CD-ROM to be shared on MS-NET based systems. Errors and issues When booting, I receive the message 'MSCDEX is already running,' and if I continue, all programs will stop running. It is likely that you have more than one MSCDEX statement in your autoexec.bat. Edit the autoexec.bat and place a REM in front of one of the MSCDEX lines in the autoexec.bat. OK now that i have a real copy of ms-dos on my old pc. I need to set up the drivers for the USB flash drive and the CD ROM. I have the drivers on the F: drive. I need help with the Autoexec.bat file and the config.sys file. I have read the Q&A on autoexec. But im am still not sure about how to realy set them up ther are some exsampels that mostly show with windows, i dont have windows on it. So im left with some other quistons. Like how meny devices can i use? Is ther an order i need to make sure the dvices are listed. Packard bell model #P160119601, the motherboard is Agna-6wmm7, it uses PC-100 ram 64 megs, hard drive is a WD Caviar 84AA (set with 4 partions C: D: E: F: all portions or about 2gig in size), The OS is MS-DOS 6.22. It has a floppy 3.5 and a DVD ROM. Problems With Device DriverThank you for any help one can send my way. LOL thank you Patio i had almost given up when i came back here to check the post. I had tried many other drivers. And was even able to get the device to show up in dos but still not able to get in to them. I have down loaded the zip from the site you sagested.
